Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
These Goodyear Eagle F1s on the optional 17s have lasted a good 30 thousand kms, although now they are pretty worn, and as previously stated, they are rather noisy, especially compared to our other Focus.
I cannot wait to replace them, but would expect another 30 thousand out of the replacement set, at least.

hehe yeah Adelaide hills are great :D
aye they have been rotated....i think its just that i am a hard driver, the tyres on my EL lasted about 15k when they should have been up to the 45k mark..... *sigh* just seem to go through them waaaaay to fast
Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
Daaaamn chris!!!!! They are my original factory tyres, yep, a whole 45,000km out of them. I am very impressed, but like the trye noise most people are getting, basically I'm not getting noise, just squeals. They're fine on the highway and still in a straight line, but just crap laterally, lost a little bite and they squeal like buggery which is embarassing!!!!! I'd also expect at least 30,000km out of a decent set. Any less and I'm screwed!!!! That'd be almost a new set every year because I average about 25,000km a year.
Re: Tyre purchasing - New tyres for the Zetec after 45,000km
Yeah i used to do 30k+ a year in my cars, this one looks like i will only make about 21k which isnt very much driving, the front tyres still bite nicely, but tend to squeal when i hit those 90 degree corners at 60
Looks like i will be up for a new set soon as well.... damnit

That's really weird Chris. Just how much hard driving are you doing?! Are you getting even wear? How often are you checking pressures? Have you let some monkey at a tyre shop do your wheel alignment? I'd be worried about too much toe in or toe out with tyre wear like that.
I have not let anyone touch my alignment since delivery. Too many tyre shops out tere go and make up where your wheels should be pointing, rather than using the factory settings.
Speaking of which, does anyone have the factory settings for the ST handy? Matt?

Noise doesn't really mean too much in cornering. The Contis are certainly a lot quieter than my Dunlop FM901s on the GTi6, especially around Wakefield. I think the GS-D3s will be a bit louder again, in bother tyre noise and squeel, going by some of the reviews.
I'd love to run the Michelin Pilot Exaltos, but it doesn't look like we'll get them here.

Well you know that normally means you'll forsake grip, right? In any case, a set of Sumitomo HTRZ IIs would suit the ST very well and cost peanuts, so if you get 20,000km out of a set, it's better than forking out double for a set of Contis, ay? ACtually, that's not totally true, you should get at least 35,000km out of a set, my parents just got 40,000km out of a set of Sumis.
I don't quite understand why longivity is such an issue, but that's just my opinion... if you're on a budget, buy cheaper tyres, but I wouldn't expect any longer life out of them.
Just look at the NCT5 lasting as long as it has on Matt's car. They last a long time, but doesn't mean they have a lot of grip, yet they cost the same as the tyres that grip more and wear less. I'd prefer the latter...or to pay less and have more grip and less wear, than pay less for more wear...
