I have recently purchase a new zetec R (picking it up in a few days)
I would like any feedback on alarms upgrades? I have spoken to cobra, novatronic their all around the $550-$650 range, does anyone have a Ford factory Alarm fitted? Finding it hard to get spec on it!!!
Ok... The factory one is over priced for what it does... All it does is have a internal sensor that sets off the alarm when someone either enters the car with it on or tries to start the car with it on.
So, what i have done gotten myself a $700 alarm + installed (Picked it up for $500) and what it does is not only has internal sensor but also external sensor if someone goes near the car it gives warning beeps, 3 point cutoff, and panic alarm.
The only reason to stay with the Factory alarm system is if you wanted to keep your single key set- I cant use mine anymore and only use the alarm remote to open my car.
Now if i was you MrZetecR this is what i would do...Because i just think it is so cool!
Go and see a pro installer (I got mine done at lifestyle store in Parramatta-Best guys around- Because you are getting a fully deck out zetec (I HATE YOU!) you should be getting power windows... If you get a after market alarm you will be able to get what is know as Window-Lifters at a additional charge. These are so cool! What happens is when you park your car and get out you can leave your windows down and as you walk away you press the lock button, at this (not looking at your car cause you are so cool) the windows up will wind up and the car will lock itself in a James Bond - Batmobile sort of way!!! So cool!
Anyone else have any thoughts???

lol @ WASCAL....JamesBond....good idea although i am always paranoid that gadgets like that will run my battery out.

I don't have any alarm on my Focus, only the std immobiliser coz I don't think anyone will steal my car! It goes from garage at home to garage at work too so the chances of it being stolen are pretty low, although I do worry about it being broken into at the shops.
WASACL - A friend has an alarm fitted to his Lexus IS200 that folds the mirrors as well when he locks it, and also can start the car remotely - they are two more awesome gadgets I want in an alarm system! Also able to dial the car up and immobilise it from the phone if you see it driving down the street without you!
By the way, welcome to the forums, MyZetecR! Hope you find them a good helpful resource - be sure to check out our club site also! I think an optional alarm on the Focus has motion sensors inside and all that gear - or is that only on the ST170? "Zetec" might be able to enlighten us on that one.
Regards, Tim!

How much boost?
My zetec had a pretty good alarm installed for the bloke who bought it new. 2 immobiliser circuits (plus the ford one, so 3 altogether), boot, bonnet, doors, glass breakage and interior sensor. Probably overkill for a quiet country town with not that many feral car thieves. Pretty embarrasing when it starts wailing full bore when the ball lands on it at footy and everyone knows whose car it is.

The ST170 has the motion sensors as std on the alarm system, its quite funny i leave the windows down half way int he driveway, dad walks past sometimes and doesnt go near the inside of the car and the alarm goes of.... my car doesnt like him all that much
Try Sentry - they supplied our alarms in Sydney dealerships, do a great job and have black wiring, sensors on bonnets etc and will also fit interior sensors... best part is they integrate into the factory remote. from memory it was around the $600 mark.
