Hey guys, I think that the pricing issue is being blown out of proportion, I would be happy to pay $1000-$1200 for a tune that cannot be detected and alters the parameters of the original ECU(PCM). It cuts down the information flow, and begins to minimise the possiblily of the information flow going wrong, as my understanding is it chances the factory parameters, not just the signals. This would hopefully mean not only a car with more power but a car that runs better, smoother etc set by the factory computer unit.
And BTW I currently am running Unichip.
I do have one question though, does it have the ability with the required mods to get the high rwkw that some of the T's have been getting with the piggyback units?
Not sure if this has been addressed before, but doesn't the factory ecu have a timer of some sort that can be measured against the km's? If you reflash the computer just prior to dealer service won't the readings be out?
Once again, my apologies if this has been answered already.
I drive, I vote and I'll go out of my way to see you out of government Mr Bracks. You lied your way into power and you lie to keep it. Enough lies!!! You're out of here!
Have we established if the SCT advantage is undetectable by the Ford Dealers? I was under the impression that the ECU did some minor data logging that would flag any enhanced performance figures or ECU changes?
[quote=Street Tuner]I think price is a sore point for a lot of folks here because they have already invested $1500 - $2000 in obsolete technology, and cant justify the extra spend to the 'Boss' (of the household). I think the answer to the whole thing lies in a pretty simple question -
"Do you want to trick the computer and be limited in camshaft selection, and modification options, or do you want to tune the engine properly and open up a whole new world of possibility?"QUOTE]
I disagree with you on that point Martin, I have had my Unichip for a year and have been enjoying my car for all of that time with the power increase that it has brought me. A year that I have done 35,000km in.
I am running times on the strip that very few BA Falcons are running and am having a ball. A year is a long time, has it been worth $1500 you bet.
How can something be obsolete when there is nothing better than it on the market. Advantage doesn't even exist in the marketplace yet.
All of my mods will be able to be utilised if I choose to go the edit path so most of my investment will be well and truely worth what I have spent.
Enough talk, time to walk the walk, if it is a good as you say it is we are all in for the fun I have been having for the last year and maybe more!
I find it interesting watching you guys debate the pricing issue here, when happily enough you fork out $1300 - $1500 for something little more effective than an old fashioned fuel cut defender (piggyback)....
What I do know is that CAPA will be offering some sort of cash back deal for those that want to trade their piggybacks. $100 or whatever they are going to offer will probably be more than you can get any other way. Check out ls1.com.au where they struggle to get more than $50 for a second hand piggyback. :)
I guess that the debate about pricing comes down to one major issue.... affordability for the everyday joe.... when you go past the magic thousand dollar barrier, you price a lot of people out of the market.... for those people the fifty dollar piggyback would become very appealing....
Now I personally find the advantage a very interesting concept.... but if the price ends up sky high, which could happen, then the $50 piggyback would be a worth while contender... call it the "poor mans mods" if you like...
looking forward to the release... hopefully at a reasonable price.

Mmmm,
First off, I doubt you will ever see $50. piggy backs, cheaper than they are at the moment for sure, as they dont seem to do too much for the Boss5.4, but the turbo is a different thing all together, there are several guys running big RWKW with only basic bolt on mods, now i am not saying it is the perfect way to mod a car, so far that option doesnt exist, but to get 330-340 rwkw, on auto 6 turbos, with simple mods like CAI, mild exhausts, injectors, and a piggy back fitted, why would these guys throw away the $1200-1400 they paid for thier chips to change to something that has no runs on the board yet. (alot of time in the nets, but no runs.)
This isnt a slag at the "SCT advantage" but there are several manufacturers and lots of tuners who get reliable, drivable, economical high output turbos by using "obsolete technology", someone please tell me what has made them obsolete.
Step up, prove the technology is obsolete, or stop kicking the shite out of what has been getting XR6 turbos, street driven, street tyred, auto sedans and utes into the high 11's at around 123mph for the past couple of years.
Step up I say, step up.

This is were WE ford owners get our assess whipped. We all winge about this as being to dear. Most of the LS1 blokes just go for what makes the best power.Every time i go out to the track there is 10 LS1's to 1 Ford Boss or XR out there having a go.If the product delivers i would be happy to fork out the right price. If this product outperforms the piggy back type system then i would be happy to get rid of it for something more superior. If you want to go quick you have to spend the $$$$$$$$$$.

dont get me wrong... I too am happy to fork out the right price..... just not an over inflated price..... My comments were said in reply to martins comments about all the debate.... I think the debate comes in when it is out of reach of the average joe..... I will be getting the edit and most of the prices I have seen floating around this site (although all speculation) seem reasonable to me.... a couple seem a bit over the top.... just my 2Cworth
