Here they are finally, as promised, in a rather low quality WAV format saved off my mobile voice recorder but they give the general impression. You can definitely hear the sexy purr and growl of the system as I accelerate in the clips...
Forgiving the distortion in one of them where I start up the car and rev it (makes it sounds obscenely loud), they're all hopefully a good indicator of what a 2 1/4 incher with good flow central muffler can do to the car. The only other mod is a K&N panel filter, which makes little to no difference sound-wise. Enjoy and if anyone wants to hear something else, I'll record them for you too, just to help. Otherwise if u live in Melbourne give me a call and I'll pop over!
Rev is me starting then revving the car in the garage with the phone on the ground behind the car... too distorted but you can hear the popping on the back flow.
Start is a hardish 1st and 2nd gear 0-about 80km/h run speaks for itself
Zetec inside is a moderate throttle 3 gear run from 0-60km/h with the windows up.
20-90 is my fave, a good charge from 20km in first to 90km/h in third. All of these were conducted on and near the Ring Road late at night where there was no traffic and I was merely accelerating within legal limits. I do not condone speeding nor doe I support this in suburban or built up areas driving at 90km/h.
One slight problem, my web account is refusing to let me post a paltry pitiful 56kb worth of Wav files!!!!!!!!! Can anybody help? Fordfordums don't accept non pic files... booo

Might have to eventually get an exhaust on mine i thinks..... 2.5" cat back.. yeah that wouldnt be bad.. hang on thats whats on there already :D... maybe just a new back box to make it sound a bit meatier
Sorry bout the MOV file its all my camera does... but here is my car's exhaust with video :D... and there is another one there of the actual car as well.....
Matt - sounds ok, except the garage one is hard to hear, like you said. They are a nice free revving engine, probably not as free as the Mondeos but nice all the same, which is why I bought one.
The new exhaust you got certainly helps its note! Congrats and thanks for putting the files up.
Oh, and 0-60 in three gears - what the? I am over 80 before you think about third! But it sounded good all the same - especially considering you couldn't have gone over 5 grand on the changes on that clip.
Well done. Tim!

How much boost?
Tim, the 0-60 changes were all below about 4000rpm from memory.
Normally the car sees 1st redline at about 40, 2nd at 80, 3rd at about 130 and 4th I've never redlined but hey, something I'll have to try one day!!!!!!!
And Talldude, I get absolutely NOTHING at 100km/h, no drone WHATSOEVER. That's the amazing thing about it.... It burbles on idle, has gorgeous popping on throttle lift off, barks on changes, sounds great with the windows up (quiet enough to have low stereo) but loud enough when you get on it and at top revs, you hear the engine still... best thing is the highway is sensational, barely a whisper. I'm stoekd and would seriously recommend anyone serious about exhausts can have a listen to mine. Also a good (if VERY quiet) exhaust is the Herrod zorst. Heard Melbzetec's on Sunday and for low down torque it craps on my car, but absolutely dies in the arse at 5500rpm. Mine's a little slower off the mark but is still screaming hard to about 6000-65000 comparitively speaking. Depends what ur after I guess. It was also a little quiet for my liking, and mine cost $300 vs $900 for Herrods, but DAMN the low down torque was amazing, a serisouly decent exhaust. Herrod definitely knows what he's doin!!! In hindsight I's still go for mine, value and sound for money, it's unbeatable. Easily replicated at any decent local zorst shop too.
Gotta love the euro 4 pot Fords, no matter if they're 'old school' carby fed (Escort, Capri, Cortina, ect...) or 'new school' EFI (Focus)...

I know I shouldn't do it in a car as old as a 1976 Mk II Escort, but 0-60km/h only takes me first and second gear (and sometimes, when I'm being particularly nasty to my poor engine, it sees 80km/h in second), then I slot it straight into 4th, but the gear and diff ratios obviously would be very different between an Escort and a Focus, seeing as I only have 4 gears to play with.
Anyway, back to the topic, that is one good sounding Zetec, we should organise a cruise for all of us 4 pot Fords here in Melbourne. I know I'd be interested in going along, anybody else?
