1979 Ford Escort Mk II RS2000

The new soulmate to my Focus.

Tonight I just got back from a mammoth 10 hour drive to pick up my latest toy, the RS2000.

The car is obviously a four door, usual RS features like the Scheel Recaro seats, quick shift kit (missed gear kit), has extractors and a 40mm Capri weber on it, but otherwise mostly original. I also have the original weber and manifold just in case.

The Escort and Nick's (GreenMachine) ride, waiting while we were stocking up on supplies (like water and oil and cans of V!) before I left Brisbane.

The car suprised me with how well it attracts attention, and it performed flawlessly the whole drive home.

Only just inside the NSW border, I feel safer already!

I'll probably get flamed for this, but the car is too loud in my opinion, well it was after 10 hours of it straight at any rate. It is certainly cop attracting noise, so not sure if I will do something about it or leave it. I also think the Capri weber is too large, I may return the manifold and weber back to the stock units to see the difference. Any RS2000 owners with any advice on this is more than welcome to contribute!

A quick stop off at Coffs Harbour on the way.

The car is pretty clean but has its range of things to do to tidy it up here and there, something to keep me occupied for years to come no doubt!

Nice one I love escorts.
My brother has a MK2 Mexico 2 door and my mate has a MK2 RS2000 4 door that we're restoring (read "modifying the f**k out of it") my brothers painting it bright green, it's a kawasaki motorbike colour so it's bright, and I built the engine it has twin 45mm sidedraughts on a redline manifold with velocity stacks and sock filters, shaved head, stronger springs, stage 5 rally cam, vernier cam gear, balanced bottom end and at the moment is straight out extractors.
My brothers 2L had a single 45mm sidedraught and a cam and made 62rwkw through a c3 auto then it was EPA'd, after it was returned to stock, plus some mild porting, we found it made the same power with the standard carby.
In classic fords magazine they recommend the 36mm capri carby as being the best upgrade carby for an otherwise stock engine but I don't think the 40mm would be too big at all I'd keep it.

hey ford el, i htink i know a guy with a RS2000 like the one in the pic whos selling, just has to put the last few things back in the engine bay, same colour as well

i think its lowered, exhaust, brake upgrade(think he said brembos) port & polished head, quickshifter custom black interior and custom drop tank cover, looks and sounds sweet as, wanted to pick it up myself but funds were limited.

he wants 4.5k for it but i reckon you could get 3.5-4 for it, or even 3 if your good enough at haggling. if you want i can give you his number

oh an does it work as good or better than the standard weber???

I used to run a 40/40 capri webber a very nice carb on a mild 2.0. It started it's life on a 2.0 that had a speco 103 cam and mild port work. It then when onto an engine that had a speco 303 cam and rediculous amount of head work. A single 2 1/4 pipe works well with a genie extractors. 1.3lt 3.89 or 4.11 diffs do well too

I've had too many Escorts, all 2 doors inc an RS2000. Keep an eye on the oil pressure gauge as this is a high maintanence part I found. It was continually cracking covering my feet in oil. It annoyed me that much that I sold the car and never got another Escort and moved onto Ford V8's.
