My latest mod - GT airbox

The latest mod to my car is to fit a GT/XR8 airbox to the car.

This is in preparation to adapting the original snorkle to the new airbox so I'll be running two intakes.

I was thinking of adapting the two intakes into the XR6 airbox same as the Tyhoon but this is a much simpler option.

Re: My latest mod - GT airbox

The point is the pod filter in the XR8 & GT is a more optimal design than the flat panel in a box in the XR6 variants.

The reason they don't use it comes straight down to costing and Ford wanting to save a few bucks on it's much higer volume 6 cylinder models.

Just like people say you get better midrange etc.. from fitting the Big Tickford snorkle to earlier AU's, this will give you the same improvement over the standard box in the XR6T

JR hit the nail on the head. This airbox breathes better than the standard 6 box. It's been dyno tested and there are gains of around 10 - 12 kw at the wheels.

Plus I'm attaching the original snorkel to this box as well. This is what they have done with the new Typhoon but using the standard box. The idea being that the more air volume, the less pressure on the turbo, the more power produced.

Re: My latest mod - GT airbox

Did you have to cut a big hole in the side of the airbox Pod? Are you using a Batten or K&N filter? Batten make a Pod Filter exactly like the XR8/GT type pod, but with a pre-cut hole for the snorkel (which is also supplied in the kit) to bolt straight on. I was also going to ask you what did to bipass the bit there the MAF would be but you just added another peice of factory flexitube. Looks real good! Keep us up to date with the performance gain/better fuel economy (if applicable).
