After having the XR6T for 6 months, its turnover time. Loved the XR6T to death. Fantastic car in all areas, but got bored with the auto in it and wanted something a little bad. Picked up my new Venom XR8 Ute last week. Got hard cover, spoiler, 18s, momo, premium sound, XR mats & tint. The audio hasn't had much use though, can't get over how bloody great the exhaust sounds.
After driving the XR8 for a week I am starting to find things I like and dislike about it compared to the XR6T. The XR6T might just come up tops in the figures, but the fun factor of the V8 can't be matched. Hmmm... I could handle getting that IRS back though.
Here is a pic down at the beach today. Sorry about the quality, it was taken with my Nokia 7250. More on the way...

Looks very very nice :)
I love the manual, but its a lot harder to launch quick. I know its probably not a fair comparison between an auto XR6T sedan(TC on) and a manual XR8 ute(No TC) but I could floor the turbo and it would rocket off the line like a bullet with only a few screeches! Yesterday I gave the XR8 3500 off the line and it didn't move! But hey the reving V8 combined with spinning rubber *HORN*. I would imagine that after I have driven it for a little while longer, I'll be better in the manual. Overall, I believe the manual is a lot more fun and I'm very happy I made that choice. The thing is, my sister could get consistant 6 second 0-100klm times in an auto XR6T... its very easy and very quick. The XR6T Utes are probably similar to the 8's... harder to launch due to lack of traction control but once they get going... dam quick.
Between the 2 engines its a hard one. The turbo feels faster, no question. But is it? I'm not sure. The turbo seems very fast in the mid range(probably where you most use it) and the Boss deals it out gradually, before opening up after 4000. I have been in other turbos (Laser TX3 / WRX) before, and to me, the power difference when boost hits makes the car feel faster than a gradual build from a N/A engine IMO.
Personally I prefer the XR8. Its got the looks, the bulge, the awesome note and hey, its a V8. To me the XR6T doesn't have as much cred to the normal person. I get double as many looks now I have the XR8, but I would not like to see one at the lights, especially a sedan. It probably comes down to a personal preference I guess. Straight out performance (but looks to much like a N/A XR6) go the turbo, but if you can stretch the budget, the XR8 is nearly as quick but looks better and sounds lots, lots better. To be honest, this is the best stock car I have ever heard! I would really love to have a go in an XR8 sedan with TC on.
Cost wise, the XR8 ute came out just over $1000 more, retail. The XR6T only had mats, my ute I optioned up. Will get some more pics ASAP.
