Every now and then when I turn a left hand corner you can hear a thump thump thump thump coming from the rear of the car. Either that or the bump stops are getting pounded? It almost sounds as if the top of strut is loose and thumping around in the boot. It only occurs every now and then though but it is more noticeable at higher speed cornering.
It is a 96 EF II Ghia with LSD. I am pretty sure that it is not the diff.
On a serious note, check that everything in your boot is secured tightly in your boot. I get alot of noises coming from the boot because my jack wasn't tightly secured..
Other than that I wouldn't have a clue, haven't had any other experiences with that kind of noise..
had the shocks and springs replaced in my dads EL.. and he was getting a thumping sound aswell......after F@#$ing around under the car we realized that the bottom end of the shocker bolt had become loose and initially thought it was the bump stop.. :)
Sorry; but sometimes it's just too hard to resist the obvious smart arse answers.....and given I once had the same problem and now can't remember the cause or cure (but it was something simple - perhaps the kids were in the boot) I just had to say something.
I dont think it is the diff because I did some experimenting today. I went over some harsh bumps and noticed the noise is coming from the right rear suspension. I think it is something loose. Gonna have a proper look on the weekend.
