'01 Ranger oil guage issues

The oil guage on my '01 Ranger (4.0 L V6) has begun sticking, or something.

When I first start the engine, the guage does not move, and the Check Guage light comes on.

Then, it will eventually jump up, and acts nervous for a few minutes.

As of late, my wife's Explorer has been doing the same thing.

Is this an issue with guages on the particular model years?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Re: '01 Ranger oil guage issues

How cold is it?

What viscosity of oil was used for the last oil change?

It could be that your oil is so viscous at start up that it's not really flowing
for those few seconds.

Re: '01 Ranger oil guage issues

Cold, like, early morning starts with an ambient temp of around 20 degrees Farenheit.

The oil is Vavoline Synthetic, 10W30.
