02 Ranger 3.0l Oil Pressure Problem

My Ranger has approximately 68,000 miles on it and the oil pressure gauge was flickering (wildly sometimes) after driving it on the expressway for 30-40 minutes. Gauge now reads High pressure any time engine is running. With just key on, it reads low pressure. I have had the pressure switch replaced and it still does the same thing. Oil is changed every 3000-3500 miles. Check engine light has never come on although check gauges has a couple of times. All fuses are good and I have disconnected the neg. cable and still have this problem. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Re: 02 Ranger 3.0l Oil Pressure Problem

CHECK the CPS Before you drive it agian. if you cps fails you have no oil pressure and you will need a new engine. the cps fails from 70,000 miles and a few cases fewer. aqlso dont get a dorman cps found at most autoparts stores get a motorcraft. with this part the more you spend the better because you wont be getting a shoddy part. with the dormans some of these didnt even last a few hundred miles.

what can WE do about this cam synro problem? - Ranger Power Sports Forum

I would get a mechanical gauge and see for sure whats going on. Sounds electrical to me.
