confused 1987 Ranger doesn't fire

1987 Ranger. Started truck and didn't get out of parking lot when it died. It turns over but does not fire. We got some starter fluid and that didn't make it start. We changed all 4 spark plugs, rotor and distributor cap. We have spark and we have fuel. Any ideas on problem????

Re: 1987 Ranger doesn't fire

Hi There:
Sounds like a bad ignition igniter located behind the distributor.Been there done that. They burnout around the 80k mile mark. You will need a special wrench called a ignition module wrench. It looks like a stubby screwdriver with a 7/32" socket attached to it.(costs about$ 7.00)First disconnect the electrical connector. Not much room to work back there so take your time & don't drop the 2 attaching screws. Be sure to coat the back of the igniter with dielectric grease other wise you will burn it up.PS It matters when you go to buy the part if you have a/c or no a/c
