1990 4x4 with 300,000+ miles & counting
I just HAVE to boast about my lil' Ford Ranger Custom. Bought it new in 1991, it'd been sitting on the lot for months after the person who ordered it failed financing. It's nothing fancy, basic work truck, with 4x4, extended cab, vinyl floor, vinyl seats, and A/C.
It's now got over 300,000 miles on the original transmissions - 5-speed manual and 4x4 (I've got manually locking hubs) - body, leaf springs (which were upgraded at 12,000 miles), and electronics. I did have the engine rebuilt at 229,000 miles, not because it needed it, but I was redoing the cooling system and decided to just bite the bullet and do both at the same time.
Anyway, this little truck has hauled everything from a complete office setup, countless loads of computers, yard waste, a pair of pot-bellied pigs and their sty, many dogs, and my 4-H group's entire rabbit herd. It's first hauling job was returning a engine hoist to a rental yard, when it got it's first scratch and became a real work truck. I refer to it as my "energizer bunny" since it just keeps running. It does have a dent in the bed on the driver's side - a result of a neighbor falling asleep at the wheel after pulling a double shift. Didn't mind though as it save a few kids from being hit. It could use some cosmetic work, but other than that it runs great and I refuse to get rid of the truck.
I've gone through 5 other vehicles while I've had this truck...it just keeps on kicking!
How many miles do you have on your Rangers?
