1994 Ranger 2.3 Thermostat location

Hello All,
I was looking at my Haynes manual for the location of the thermostat. It shows the upper radiatior hose clamping on to (for lack of a better description) a "pipe". They point to this pipe and say this is the housing. Doesn't look like any T-stat housing I've ever seen. Is this correct? Is it that easy to replace the stat? Just remove the upper hose and stick in a new stat? My ranger has always read close to the "C" on my gage and was thinking of changing the coolant and stat this weekend and see if it helps it.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Must remove "Pipe" that the hose attaches to, thermostat is under it. Make sure you don't get it in backwards (it is marked) and do not overtighten the bolts when reassembling, this piece is usually aluminum and can break. As long as your heater works I would leave it cold.
