1996 FUEL SYSTEM HELP!!!!

I recently had my fuel pump replaced, and since I have not been able to fill it up with gas; when I pump it, it immediately releases. Also, on longer drives, 10 miles or so, my engine will randomly shut off! I was able to start it again after a couple seconds but, now it won't even start! I'm very frustrated, because it cost me $450 to replace the pump, and I just spent $600 on getting the timing belt replaced. I'm a teacher and don't make this kind of money. I know my way around an engine, and have worked in shops before, but anxiety gets the best of me when it's my vehicle, and I've never been the best judge at diagnosing my own vehicles.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS: My fuel gas has never worked, I was hoping that the new sending unit would restore it to it's former glory, but it did not.

Re: 1996 FUEL SYSTEM HELP!!!!

Sounds like tank is not venting properly or you have a kinked hose .You could have checked the fuel gauge when the tank unit was out by manually operating float .This should help you with testing ,

1996 ford ranger fuel gauge not working stay empty - JustAnswer

You will have to go back to basics with the non start checking to see if you are getting fuel and spark .
