1998 Ranger 4.0 L Cam Synchronizer
I have a 1998 Ranger with a 4.0 L engine. I get a P0340 code which is a Cam Position Sensor. It turns out that not only the sensor is bad but also the synchronizer. Does anyone have a good procedure to replace and position the synchronizer? The Hanes book is vague and relys on the initial position of the sensor for a reference and I think that it was incorrect. Also since the engine runs great with out the sensor doing anything, what does this sensor do? Thanks.
