1998 ranger engine light came on

was driving home last night in the rain on a bumpy road where i hit a small pot hole. Then I stopped for a after work snack. While waiting for my food noticed the truck getting kinda boggy.
After a couple minutes the check engine light came on. I drove it home bout a 1/2 mile. It ran okay home. This morning i opened the hood and let it idle. It started fine but doesn't want to hold idles smoothly. It bogs down then I hear a click then it revs back up.It has 113700 mile on it and is a 2.5l auto Any ideas would be helpful

Has the timing belt been changed? Try running with the MAF sensor unplugged and see what it does. Take it to Autiozone and they'll pull codes for free. Post back the results.
