2000 Ford Ranger

Filled gas tank. When I started the truck back up, the gauge didn't register the gas. Drove eight miles and with my foot on the gas it started to slow down. Pulled over on the shoulder of the expressway. It sputtered when I stopped. I finally got the nerve to cut it off. I cranked it about ten minutes later it went about a thousand feet and did the same thing. This time it sputtered again when I tried to crank it till finally it would never even turn over like the battery was dead. While waiting on the tow truck it did loose compete power within the hour. The flashers would not even work. Laymen terms please as I am a complete girly girl.

Possibly the alternator isn't charging. The tow driver will probably check for dead battery. Also, who put the gas in? maybe they didn't?

How do I check the alternator? Take it off take it to the parts store? I put 40.00 worth of gas in for it to break down eight miles down the road

I googled the location of the alternator. Do you have to have a special tool to get that off? To take the battery off do I take black off or red? Do they test the alternator or I just say I need a new one? Does it have a belt on it?

Re: 2000 Ford Ranger

Charge the battery and if it runs, take it to an Autozone or O'Reiley's and they'll check if it's charging for free. If you take the battery to them to charge or check, unhook the black post first.
