2000 Ranger check engine light - Ford Forums

Hey I have a 2000 Ranger V6 3.0 and the check engine light comes on. My engine idles roughly and I have changed the plugs and wires already. I added sea foam to my fuel to clean out the injectors but still I have power loss and rough idling. Anyone have any ideas?

If it has a distributor, try checking the cap and rotor button for cracks, burning, and wear.
Also you should trace back your vacuum hoses and see if any of them go into a MAP (Manifold Absolubte Pressure) sensor. A cracked or missing hose or a loose plug on this may cause the problems.
It will have either a MAP or MAF (Measured? Air Flow) sensor. If you cannot find a MAP, look for a MAF in the plastic intake snorkel tubing. CHeck the plug on that too.
I suggest you get a mechanic to test the sensor, and also the fuel pressure at the rail. Another thing to check is whether the catalytic convertor (s?) is/are blocked.
Is it running rich?

Black exhaust smoke, smell of petrol from the exhaust.
Also known as dieseling in some places

No, No black smoke etc. I took it to a mechanic and he said that i should replace my fuel injectors but it would cost me 800 bucks. Is it worth 800 bucks or take it somewhere else?

OH i forgot to add that it pings when going up hills or escalated roads.
