I have a 4.0 l 6 cyl 4x4 w/ automatic transmission.

My overdrive stopped working.

What could be wrong?

If you push the button on the shift lever, does the light come on on the dash?

It does not. But I posted the question all wrong. The problem is, it seems to me, that the transmission will not shift out of overdrive, I think overdrive works fine, I turn off overdrive in town and on down grades, Doesn't seem to want to get out of overdrive when I push the button.

The wire in the steering column often gets broken and that may be where the problem is. Check there and see what you find.
