2004 fuel filter removal

I have a 2004 2.3L Ranger, and I am trying to replace the fuel filter. The inlet and outlet fuel lines appear to be held on to the fuel filter by some sort of spring loaded or tension clasp and it appears that I need some sort of special tool to remove these clasps. There appears to be several A/C & fuel line quick disconnect tools on the market. I have been to four auto supply stores, but none of them have been able to identify which tool I need. If someone can help, please be specific -- the guys in the parts stores are as clueless as I am. Thanks!

Re: 2004 fuel filter removal

don't buy the little set of disconnectors unless you have to. If so, look for the plastic set. Aluminum billet is expensive. What I got that works on all ford fuel lines is a little metal disconnect tool with two sizes, one at either end, separated by a hinge. It looks kind of like a pair of scissors. They adjust slightly depending on the job. I think mine has 5/16" and 3/8" sizes on either end. You can usually find these in a balkamp blister pack at NAPA. Those are the red and/or grey packages on the spin racks
