confused 2007 Air conditioning

My 2007 Ranger has eternal air conditioning... meaning that when ever the air control is turned to any of the vent settings to the right of "off", the air conditioner compressor turns on and cold air comes out of the vents. The only selector position it does not happen in is the first position to the left of "off" just beofre the air condition and max air settings. I brought this up to the service department where I bought the Ranger and they told me it was normal, that the new compressors run all the time. I find this hard to beleive. If this is true I will first have to cool the air before I heat it in the winter. Also, If the compressor is always on (lubrication is the reason given when I questioned this), why not in the first poisition to the left of "off"? Why does it turn the compressor off when "off" is selected? I feel that they are not being honest about this. Can someone provide me with information to confront them about this with more knowledge?

Please e-mail me at mhaines@ideas-corp.com if you have information.

Thaks,
Mike

Re: 2007 Air conditioning

I have a 2005 F350 Super Duty and the compressor is on all the time, unless the switch is in the off position. Even when the fresh air setting is selected, the compressor comes on. This seems like a waste of horsepower and needless hours on the compressor, but that's how it works.

The dealer had no answer but other truck owners have confirmed this.
