3.0 vs 4.0

Hi guys I was wondering something about the 3.0 and the 4.0 litre engines for the ford ranger, is there a noticable power difference on them when driving. I'm going out to buy one in three days and I've been having a hard time finding the ones with the 4.0 and every time i do they usually have quiet a few more miles on them. I don't plan on doing any towing put i want something that doesn't feel gut less like my wife civic. thank you for any information guys.

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0

If you're talking about an older model from when the 4.0 was a pushrod engine, the difference isn't that big for every day driving, the 4.0 just had more torque for pulling stuff. However the SOHC 4.0 in newer rangers has significantly more pep than the 3.0

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0

When I bought my 4.0, the first time I got gas I did an mpg check
it came out to about 20mpg
which is not bad for a truck, especially with the bigger engine

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0

I would rather have a pushrod engine no matter the vehicle.........

Re: 3.0 vs 4.0

I have the 3.0L version in my taurus (which weighs a few pounds more than a reg cab long box) and it performs fine for everyday driving. The one thing I did notice is that if you drive a lot of highway miles, your best to get the 4.0 with the 3.55 gears. Lower rpm's, more torque for the hills and will net the same highway mpg with the auto.
