3.0L Valve Clatter
This is my second Ranger both have had the 3.0L power plant. I remember noticing a slight valve clatter noise that came from the 1991 model I owned once it got to be about middle aged (90K+).
This current one 1999 model FFV rattles much more persistently and louder than the 1991. The only relief I have found is to run 93 octane gas in it. This is an expensive work around.
Has anyone been able to 'fix' the valve noise issue? The dealerships service technicians tell me that it is a normal but not normal sound. In other words they know that the engine does it but it isn't supposed to.
Any ideas or fixes?
