89 Ford Ranger - Shifter Bushing?

Alright so my 89 Ford Ranger 4x4 shifter is quite a bit wobbly. Like to the point to where it moves over a full inch from the gears. So i have to literally keep it towards the passenger side to catch the gears.

Now i was told it might be the shifter bushing..but when i called ford he asked me in parts if it was a toyota or mistubishi transmission. Uh what? Aren't ford trucks supposed to have ford transmissions? O.o

Alright well i don't know how to figure out what transmission it has due to the fact that the truck has no information to whether its a xlt, gt or what. But this is what i do know. It's a 1989 Ford Ranger 4x4. I can post a picture and maybe someone can help me out with this. I'm still purplexed as to why ford would put a toyota or mitsu transmission in their vehicles thought. -_- Oh and no it didn't have more data about it on the door panel sticker. First time i have had to do work with it.

P.S. In the event i can't get help with this i will take the truck to ford and let them deal with it, but i'd rather not because i know how the local ford place is and their going to charge a arm and leg for a simple little part and a few minutes labor. So i am looking at $200 right off the bat with them.

Is it a manual trans? Is it the 4x4 lever or the transmission lever that's loose? To see what trans by the door code if there's a sticker, check here. Understanding The Federal Door Sticker On Your Ford Ranger
To verify what manual trans it is if there's no door sticker, check here. Ford Ranger Manual Transmissions at The Ranger Station

Re: 89 Ford Ranger - Shifter Bushing?

Yes it's a manual transmission, i hate automatics with a passion. But i will check the sticker, and it's the actual shifter that you use to shift gears with. I had the same problem in the old toyota i had, all i did was replace the bushing and that fixed it. But due to this being a ford and them telling me its not a ford tranny i have no idea what model bushing to get.

EDIT: Alright so i looked at that chart, went outside and looked at the sticker came back and compared it. Here's what it said the truck has D - Mitsubishi FM146 - 5-Speed Manual (1988-1992 2.9L 4x4). So i called the ford place and he said he can't get the part, i'd have to order it online and do it myself, so i guess i am off to research the part to see if i can find it. Let's hope google pulls through.
