Ladies & Gentlemen,

I am a PROUD owner of a 1999 Ranger 3.0L Flex Fuel (not that I can buy any flex-gas in Georgia). I am the third owner & the records were not well kept. I have had it for about 40K miles and kept up with the oil/air filter & fluid changes but know that the other stuff must be done now. I am doing the 90K maintenance myself according to the Chilton's manual.

Question 1 > I am replacing the sparkplugs and wires, should I also include the coil?

Question 2 > I am replacing the radiator fluid and upper/lower hoses, should I also repalce the thermostat? If so what temperature thermostat? I am equipped with A/C if that makes a difference; and yes i am also replacing the fan belt in case you were wondering.

Question 3 > I want to replace the fuel filter but had a heck of a time getting the old one loose. I actually gave up, and put the old one back on for now. Is there a special tool that I need to loosen the fuel line that runs from the tank to the rear of the fuel filter?

There is a fuel filter tool. It should be universal which should fit on. You can get it from your local auto shop.

The 3.0 engine holds up very well. To answer your questions, #1 no, #2 no if your engine temp is normal. Stock t-stat I'm pretty sure is 195*. #3 my previous Ranger was a '99 3.0 4x4 and I couldn't even FIND the fuel filter so I paid the dealer a few bucks to do it. Turns out it was up above the transfer case and they said I was better off just letting them do it on a lift. It does take a special tool.
