I have a 1991 EFI, 2.3 L, 4cyl, with dual plugs. I've had intermittent problems since I bought it at an auction in November, with the engine light.
At first, there didn't seem to be any driveability issues. Now, when the light comes on, it misses, stutters, and accelerates poorly. I've done the whole tune up-new plugs & wires, new air, oil, & fuel filters, O2 sensor, and EGR Valve. (Engine codes 88 & 96 were present.) I reset the computer after each procedure and the light comes back. The missing and gas mileage have become progressively worse. Ran a can of 44K through a full tank and it ran really crappy at first, then awesome for a day. After the O2 sensor, it ran great for 2 days. A guy at the parts store sprayed the air intake with some cleaner and we ran some other milky liquid through the vacuum tree this morning. When its running bad, its like its trying to cough up something, and when it runs great-it RUNS GREAT!!!!!!! What the hell else can I do here? There's no vacuum leaks, the solenoid on the EGR valve is good. . .
Something is sticky or faulty somewhere, right?
POUT. I just got laid off and can't afford the mechanic. Here's the sad part, this is the nicest POS I've ever owned! HELP!
