ford ranger runs rough doesnt go over 55mph,fuel pump working,hard to start.cant accelerate fast in park and wile driveing are truck will kill,took off cat still runs the same.

sounds like you have a cylinder or 2 not firing. Why it can be a few reasons i would start by pulling plugs and inspecting them, then inspect the ignition system from wires to distributor.

i had this happen to me once with a 85 nissan and after a half an hour with my dad finally helping me in adverse weather we found the distributor cap melted through.

i changed the pugs wires and distributer cap,rotor,it runs a lil better,but still no power and hard to start.
