94 Ranger 5sp trouble

Hi all, found this forum searching for help on fixing my tranny. It is stuck in gear and won't come out. I got it on the bench. Top off, tail stock off, all the parts that are in the tail stock including the bearing covers, front and back. The Input shaft and output shaft is loose since I took out the bearing races but I can't figure out how to break that apart so come to the computer looking for help and found this site. If anyone can help I appreciate it. Thanks. Al

Re: 94 Ranger 5sp trouble

Thanks for the welcome.I got it apart. The bearing that goes inside the input and for the main shaft froze up, and bound the two shafts together so it was acting like direct drive, same as in 4th gear. I drove it apart with wedges( i used chisels as wedges). I lost a brass ring for the synchro in the process but thats OK. Look for new parts tomorrow.

Re: 94 Ranger 5sp trouble

I got it on the road and put around 500 miles and runs good. I have the 3.0L, 5sp, 2wd, 14" tires and I thinking if I put a set of 15" tires on it would it give better mileage. Anyone try it?

I haven't done it for years, but bigger = better mileage, but less power. It will also throw your spedo off.
