Exclamation 96 Ranger Fuel Filler Hose PROBLEMS *HELP*

Alright.
I had a gas leak on my truck for a while, coming from around the gas tank. But its was only when filling or when i fill the tank over half full.

So, I removed my bed and noticed that my fuel filler hose was cracked in a few places. So I went to the dealer and they wanted $380 for the whole assembly. I did not want to spend that, so I went online and got one for $90.
I installed it and now I can not fill my tank i have about half a tank and when I put the nozzle in the fuel reaches it's way to the top of the neck and shuts of immediately. why is this happening? any ideas?

Re: 96 Ranger Fuel Filler Hose PROBLEMS *HELP*

I looked at after this happened and it looked like the hose went farther down than it should have so it had to go down and then up to get to the gas tank. Which would cause this problem. But, I moved the hose up to solve this problem.. It didnt work.
I guess I will check with a level in the morning.

Alright..
I've decided that i'm just going to remove the bed again when i have time and play with everything.

i can fill up.. it just takes 10 minutes.. literally. Better than it leaking tho i guess. I cant even get it to go to the first lock on the pump.. it clicks off right before. otherwise it wouldn't be so bad.

Check to see if there is a smaller solid plastic hose on the inside of the rubber hose. Most filler hose have to keep the gas from backing up like that. You should be able to get a filler hose from a junk yark for about $20.

Re: 96 Ranger Fuel Filler Hose PROBLEMS *HELP*

The internal filler hose is probably kinked.

Loosen the hose clamp under the bed at the filler neck and break the hose free without removing the hose from the steel neck. Remove the three screws from the filler neck inside the filler door. Fish a flexible piece of tubing carefully down the the filler neck slowly as you rotate the steel neck to clear the kink. Once the tubing slides freely down to gas you are good. Line up your filler neck screws and tighten everything down. Don't forget to hold the filler trap door back when you remove the tubing so you don't bend it out and don't smoke while you are doing this.

Also keep an eye on the aftermarket fuel pipes. I replaced mine on my 94 ranger last year and it appears to have similar cracking at the hose clamps already on the surface of the rubber.

Good luck
