So Im about to buy a 97 ranger and the guy said the check engine light has been on for like two years, he got it fixed about 3 times and still keeps coming back but has had no effect on the trucks performance. The test said it was running lean. What could this possibly be and around how much is it to fix? Thanks.

lol it could be a million things but for 2 years and nothing, it gona be a stable investment but bro when i took of my cadalic convertor the check engine light went on and never stoped, its odb2 so u could buy it and take it to autozone per say and get a free egine test bro, pinpointing the problem, why not test drive it and have em test it lol?

I have a '97 Ranger and my 'check engine' light has been on/off for several years too. I had a tech read the error codes and it came up as 'unknown' or something like that. I decided it isn't causing any problems, and so far it hasn't.
