Trying to help out a friend that's having some hard times.

I replaced the VSS in the differential, but still no speedo. ABS light DID go out though. Oil gauge doesn't work either, was going to throw on a new switch this weekend. From the middle of the speedo gauge into the oil pressure gauge has no light. Possible problem with cluster? or not so likely?

Hi, possible loose connector at/behind the cluster. As for the oil pressure gauge, it's an idiot light with a needle; Meaning the sender is just an on and off switch. On, reads normal on the gauge and off reads zero on the gauge. Eight pounds of pressure or more makes the gauge read normal.

I'm having a similar problem with a 2000 Ranger 3.0/5 speed. The speedometer works up to about 55MPH or so, then starts acting erratic. Drops to 0, then bounces to different speeds. Slow to about 55 or so and it works again.
We've tried several speed sensors, to no avail. My mechanic hooked up his scanner to it. We had a problem with the scanner "communicating" with the vehicle, but once it did, we went for a ride with the scanner hooked up. Speedo did nothing, stayed at 0 no matter what speed. Scanner showed no output. Once we disconnected the scanner, speedo started working again, like it was, accurate to 55, and then acting erratic. My mechanic is lost.

Any thoughts?
