I've got an 87 ranger w/ 2.9L with the auto overdrive swapped in place of the 5 spd.
I really don't want to change the wiring harness if possible.
Is there any way to do this without the harness switch

If I read your post right, you're ditching the A4LD in favor of the standard? That's a very smart move as the A4LD's are nothing but trouble. The OD planetary's are known for self destructing and they rarely make it to 100,000 miles before a rebuild. I would take a 5 speed over one of those any day.

No need to change the wiring harness to switch from auto to manual. I don't believe you need to change the harness to go from standard to auto either as the A4LD is not an electronically controlled tranny.

actually '92 the 5spd was trashed and the auto was swapped in...
trying to get the od to work without the wiring harness swap
