If I read your post right, you're ditching the A4LD in favor of the standard? That's a very smart move as the A4LD's are nothing but trouble. The OD planetary's are known for self destructing and they rarely make it to 100,000 miles before a rebuild. I would take a 5 speed over one of those any day.
No need to change the wiring harness to switch from auto to manual. I don't believe you need to change the harness to go from standard to auto either as the A4LD is not an electronically controlled tranny.
