It's either the bulbs, or the back up light switch. Is it auto or manual?

its a standard tranny,im assuming the lights should come on automatically

The back up lamp switch is on the drivers side of the tranny towards the top. You just remove the connector and unscrew it. It's a cheap part. Also check the wiring. If that dont help, then it's probably the light bulbs.

Well if the sensor is still there, just plug the connector in and see if that helps.......

can i clean it out or should i replace it ?

If plugging it back in and checking the bulbs doesn't help, i would just replace the sensor itself. I priced one for $10 at Advance Auto Parts. There really isnt anything to clean out. But if it was unplugged, then simply plugging it back in should help. But if not, then it's only one of those two things--back up lamp switch, or the bulbs themselves.
