Blown Fuse

My 97 ford ranger keeps blowing starter relay fuse , starter is good, solonoid is new, battery is good. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Blown Fuse

The starter turns freely and easily when jumping the solonoid. The truck starts right away.I changed the fuse after I noticed it had blown, and it started fine for three days before blowing again.

Re: Blown Fuse

There's must be a short to ground in the circuit somewhere that intermittamt. It still could be the starter. Check that harness where it could get rubbed through.

Re: Blown Fuse

I'll ask again. What is the draw across the fuse ? Almost all the connectors and multi
pin harness connectors are aluminum. they corrode. Hence more resistance. Hence a
blown fuse. I've seem MANY cars that have 15 - 20 or 30 amp fuses in the circuit. After a few years the 15 amp fuse circuit is drawing 16 - 18 amps. and up the line. I've had
brand new cars just off the train where the 15 amp fuse draws 15 amps. or any value
of fuse. We will up the fuse rating by next size up. Problem solved. If we do police cars
we install resettable breakers. Corroded grounds will do the same.
