Hello everyone, a exhaust manifold bolt broke off on my 86 ranger. i began to drill the bolt out but im not getting anywhere, i got a new supposely titanium bit and after several minutes of drilling it barley makes a scratch in that bolt. does anyone else know of a drill bit that can drill this hardened bolt out?

Start with a 1/16" bit and work your way up. Keep it lubricated.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<welder/machinist your best bet would be a carbide bit and follow the steps that rtg mentioned. get more then 1 bit

I don't know how your engine is set up but I just had the same issue with my car and they had to take the manifold off to get the proper angle on it. The mechanic told me that he sees a lot of older cars where people try to do it themselves and end up drilling into the engine block.
