A/C controls question!

I just purchased a 2009 Ranger XL 4x2 with air conditioning. I think I have a problem with the climate control, if I select the head & feet, I still get air conditioning. The book says that I should get outside air. I took it to the service department and she told me any selection to the right of the off switch I should get air conditioning. Who is right?

Here's from the owners manual.

Re: A/C controls question!

The first setting left of OFF and second setting right of OFF are the only two settings that don't engage the airconditioner compressor. I opened the hood and tried each setting, getting out of the truck to look and that's what my truck was doing. It seems to take
AC to clear a bit of fog off the inside of front window.

Re: A/C controls question!

Both the first and second to the right won't run the A/C. Also as you said, the first position to the left. All others run the A/C except for off.

Re: A/C controls question!

On my Taurus, I was getting A/C from all settings except off & vent. I brought that up on this forum and was told that was normal.

The controls were identical to the ones shown in the photo above.

I had a 2000 VW Beetle that had better heat/ac controls. All it had was an on off button so you had all settings available with or without ac.

What year was the Taurus? At work we had 2 95's, and 2 2001's and the A/C was off in the same positions as the Ranger guide shows.

Re: A/C controls question!

The only two settings that DON'T operate the A/C is the first setting to the left or "vent" and the second setting to the right or "floor". All other settings WILL engage the A/C! This is normal! (Or normal in the eyes of Ford engineers anyway...)
