I noticed that my gas guage is pegged past "F" despite the
fact I have 108 miles on my trip odometer and last filled up
over 2 weeks ago.

Could a bad gas gauge needle cause the check engine light
to come on? I already spent almost $1,000 at the beginning
of the year for a new fuel pump, I hope I don't have to do
it again.

Its a 2003 Ranger XLT Super Cab

I have a Taurus that did the same thing. Turned out to be the flex fuel module under the dash. If your ranger is flex fuel, I would have that checked. The part is around $45 USD

I's probably two separate issues, maybe both related to deposits in the system. Run a tank with Chevron Techron. (don't dilute too much - the Ranger has a big tank)
It cleans up many problems and normally pays for itself easily in reduced consumption.

I took it to Pep Boys after it occurred, come to find out that on the back of the instrument cluster that houses the gas and temp gauge, there are 4 prongs on the back of each, one was broken off of both guages and that is what was the cause of it. $81 to order the cluster from Ford in Detroit, fixed the needle problem, but the Check Engine light is still on and they don't know why. I have to take it back tomorrow for them to run another diagnostic and fix the speedometer and the RPM needle.

One big f'ing headache after another that I did not need right now.

Got the truck back yesterday (07/01/2008) afternoon from Pep Boys. After having replaced the instrument cluster, the Check Engine light was still on, they rechecked it yesterday morning and the code that came up was: P1000 OBD Systems Readiness Test Not Complete
They reset it and said if it comes back on in a week to comeback and they would recheck it. What does this code mean?
