Anyone having problems with the clutch engaging on the A/C compressor when the A/C isn't on? Anytime I have the climate air direction dial (other than off) on any other selection, I can hear the clutch kicking off and on. I have a 2001 Ranger XLT. Just curious

honstly im not the best with clutching devices but i would be drawn to 2 things, #1 the belts gota be on to tight or to loose or the tensonor is messed up or the pulley for the ac might be loose other than that its proly the ac pump it self, most places offer core trade in discounts on em if u need a new 1 and yo u still under waranty?

Thanks for the ideas on the possible problem. I think it's more along the line of electrical, i.e., a sensor. Nope, bought it used, it's no longer under warranty.

it bet u its the relay in side the dash behind the heater/ac switchboard

sorry kinda forgot about this post, if ur still out there the guys said its probably not an eletrical problem if it is it would be on the ac switch on the dash, otherwise the clutching device is probably going out
i asked if they seel alot of these things, he said not really unles u turn ur ac of and on alot to try and save gas and stay cool.

Thanks, that's helpful. Just seems weird the clutch engages when the A/C isn't on as well. Ultimately I'll probably bring it into Ford and see what they have to say.
