could someone please tell me if a coolant temp sensor ( the one with 2 wires ) would effect the way my 97 ranger 4.0 [auto] runs it is missing /surging.it does this at all speeds it is worse with a/c on. i tried new plugs,wires thermastat/ mass air ,air and fuel filters. i have never had any engine codes. also could this the trans. it doesnot slip and the od light does work fine.

I don't think the sensor would cause your problem. Are you getting any codes. It may help to know what the 'etc' parts you changed are.

This sounds like the problem I have with my 91 4.0 liter ranger. What did you do to correct the issue
