I have a 1994 Ranger XLT. Recently the cruise control system will not disengage when I touch the brake. Even with significant pressure on the brake pedal it does not disengage. It does disengage upon touching the clutch with even light pressure, and disengages via the switches on the steering wheel.

My question is...is there a micro-switch or some such device attached to the brake pedal assembly that might be causing this problem with the brake that can be fixed in the "back yard"?

Here is something to check-do your brake lights work? I believe the same switch works for both, but I might be wrong.
