Edge 2002 won't go past 30MPH - Ford Forums

I have a feeling its the transmission. I bought this truck back in sept 07 and a month later my family and I went to the coast and I noticed that while on the freeway trying to speed up too fast the engine would, for lack of a better word, choke (or stutter). This was only up in the 60MPH+.

Now today, I went to buy a new fuse for my cigarette lighters so I can actually use my GPS and on the way to Napa I couldn't go over 30MPH. The engine would do the same choke/stutter. It wouldn't die on me or anything though.

My mom says it might also be a clutch or something.

Anyone have any idea what it might be?

Edit: Forgot to mention that it's automatic.

is it throwing any check engine lights? if so what are the codes?

From my experiences with this, it sounds like catalytic converter blockage.

I agree. It sounds like a plugged cat. To rule this out just find a vacuum guage and find a port on your vac. tree and hook it up. You will see approx. 18in.hg. at idle. As you slowly increase engine rpm and the reading starts to drop off you have a blockage in the exhaust system. If you crack the throttle quickly the vacuum will drop off then recover. If not check your cat..
