engine space

im going to put a v8 down into my ranger. but i dont think anything b igger than a 302 would fit, without alot of mod. i dont have the time to do alot of mod to the truck. this will be like a week project. i was thinkin a 289 or a 302 would do good because i live i nthe south and i need my a/c and my heat. it is a 95 ranger 5 speed manual single cab so i cant modify the firewall hardly at all and still have any room to do anything. this is going to be my daily driver. i was thinkin a 302 because they have better gas mileage than a 289, well it did in my mustang, .

Re: engine space

i would go with the 302. i'm putting a 351 in mine, and they both fit...but you have to do a few minor mods. especially the oil filter. it sits right where the steering shaft is, you have to get a relocator. not too expensive. another thing is the oil pan might have to be converted to a dual sump.

http://members.aol.com/MREPRODUCT/ranger.htm this site gives some nice info on the swap. i'm not using heat or ac, so i have no answers for you, but this site does.

302 will have a little better clearance though, due to the smaller deck height. hopefully that helps
