Flashing "Check Gage" light

I have a '97 Ford Ranger, 2WD, 2.3L 4-cyl, 5-speed manual. Lately, the check gage light will intermittently flash on and off, seemingly at random. None of the gauges are registering anything out of the norm, and it happens regardless of fuel level. No codes came up when I ran it by a local shop. It doesn't seem to be running abnormally either. Any ideas?

Re: Flashing "Check Gage" light

Just to follow up with this situation (1 month later) - the light comes on only when the fuel level is between 1/2 tank and full - so I believe it is related to the fuel level "sensor" somehow. I've noticed that when the light comes on, if I swerve back-and-forth a little bit, it goes off. While it somewhat annoying, I guess I can live with it. Thanks, folks.
