I'm getting a used engine & trans from a friend for a project i'm working on. The engine and transmission come out of an old ranger, year to be determined. They both originally come together, and on the 4-speed transmission the p/n- starts with E3, so I know they're built in '83. What I need to know is the manufacturer of the engine, HP rating, TQ rating, etc. Different websites say that only the 2.2L mazda engine was available then, Others say it was a 2.3 with a 2.2 option. The engine is not a turbo type. Any info would be greatly appreciated. The most important piece of information would be knowing if a gas-powered 83-84 ranger with a 4-speed trans output shaft would fit on the diesel version. Apparently so, since there was only one 4-speed available then, but i'd like to know for sure, since i'ts missing. Would any other output shaft/driveshaft fit?
