Hi all,

I am about to get a Ford Ranger from a local auction, this has been seized in 07 as it was illegally smuggled into the country.

Below is the picture I took a few days back,


I have no idea which year it is made in, and also I was wondering if I can obtain the cam cover from any dealers in Ford parts.

Here is the pics for the engine with the missing cam cover.


Seeing to which I am currently an expat living in Myanmar, I figure that it may be pretty tough to obtain a permit to bring in spare parts for the Ranger.

However, as I sourced around I discovered the local habit of replacing petrol/gasoline engines with 2CT / 3CT Toyota or Nissan Engines (2L/ETC), as these are more than readily available and easy to obtain (tho expensive USD2-3k for a 2CT/3CT Engine)

So I would really like to ask if there is anyone out there experience in a scenario of replacement engines of different makes and such.

Can you post the VIN number? Will be 17 characters & should be visable through lower left windshield and may also be on drivers door sticker.

Hi Jwko,

Sorry for the slow response, I don't see any VIN number as the interior is in a rather bad condition, methinks it was stripped for spare parts by the local authorities before sending it for auction.

On hindsight the Engine number is WLAT-102961, Chassis is MNBBSBD-30WW-101486.

It is an Extracab and looks suspiciously like a late 90's model or early 2000's model.

Kindly help if possible.

Somewhere on that truck there should be a 17 digit vin number. If the vin plate has been took out of the dash there should be another location stamped somewhere on that truck. I'm not sure on a Ford but on the older Chevy trucks was stamped on the top of the frame, left hand side just where the upper A frame connects.

Try looking all over the truck for the number. Could be on a sticker on drivers side door, in the glove box, on a fender maybe. I will bet it's somewhere on the frame. Should start with a 1F

A couple things I noticed is the way the hood drops down at the headlights, I believe it's a 2000+. I looked through some photos and found a few 04's & 05's with that same hood but with a different grill.

Another thing is the engine in your photo uses V belts instead of a serpentine belt. Ford Ranger had used a serpentine belt since way back when. No telling what that engine came out of. You may have a Frankenstein on your hands.
