I can only speculate as I have a '93, but i fear you're doing too much work! You should only need to drain some of the coolant, then take out some plastics (my truck is 2 screws) in the passenger side floorboard/lower paneling area, then drop out the heater. The heaters are meant to be replaced, the dash is not. If you have removed more then 10 screws I would stop!
