Similar to this one..

Just bought a (new to me) 2000 Ford Ranger. V6 3.0lt XL .175k miles.

As soon as i got the truck home yesterday the damn serpentine belt cracked and broke off as soon as i pulled in my drive way. lol
I picked up a new one this morning ($20) , and installed it today, and its running fine again..

Just wanted to ask you guys what else should i take a look at or get done?


1. Oil (duh)

2. Should i change the tranny fluid? (with this many miles, or just leave it alone?)

3. Rear differential Fluid?

4. Spark plugs?

5. PVC valve?

6. Coolant flush?

any worries about changing the tranny fluid with this many miles?

If the fluid has been changed on regular intervals then yes I would change it. If it's been in there 180k I would be afraid to.

i dont think it has ever been changed... so dont touch it? just do the other stuff?

There are some that will say change it & some would say don't.

If the fluid looks good and the transmission seems to be operating correctly, I would leave it alone myself.

Might ask your mechanic and see what he thinks.

If you only knew for sure when or if it was changed.

Be sure to have a look at the differential fluid. If you change it be sure to look in the manual you downloaded for the correct type of lubricant.

I would definitely check the belt, brakes, and universal. I have had my 2000 ranger just over 9 years and 115k. I have replaced the brakes, tires, belt and tensioner, fluid flush, plugs, plug wires, transmission oil(grease) (standard not auto), alternator and a battery. a few dash light bulbs went out. Other than that a great truck.
