I HAVE A 1999 ranger with a3.0 auto and the over drive stays on when i i puch the button nothing will happen

i had a similar problem with my '00 ranger. my problem was that it would come on after i already started driving and it wouldn't go off until i turned off the truck. it was right after i got it so i took it back to the dealer. the first time they said it was nothing (and basically said i was an idiot and must have been pushing the button.) but i made then check it anyways and they said it was just too much oil in it. but that didn't do anything when they drained it, so the 2nd time i took it back it ended up being a blown gasket in the transmission. not sure if that's what is wrong with your's but it's a start.
