Ranger oil/coolant leak

94 Ranger, 2.3L w/94K miles. Recently, it has developed a fluid leak coming from behind the timing chain cover from the general area of the water pump. The fluid looks and feels like oil, but has water beading in it. The leak is significant, producing a dinner-plate sized puddle on the garage floor when parked for 12 hours. The coolant level seems to be dropping slowly, maybe 1 oz/day. There is no evidence of oil in the radiator or water on the dipstick, so I don't think that the oil and water are mixing internally. It also does not leak continuously. It may not leak for a couple of days, then leak for couple, etc.

Is there any external seal on the 2.3L that could leak water and oil simultaneoulsy?

TIA,
---

Just a guess, but I'd say the oil was already present behind the timing cover and the hot coolant made it release making it appear as though you had two leak's. It is probably the water pump, but while your in there check the front cam seal.
