Hi all, I have a 97 ranger 2wd. I decided to replace the rear brakes, so I bought all new stuff, including drums. All indications are that it takes 10" shoes/drums. After replacing everything, the drums will not go on. At the top the shoes are all the way against the post and at the bottom tight against the adjuster, which is adjusted all the way down. This is driving me crazy. I've been at this for several days now with no progress. I've taken them apart and put them back together so many times I can count. I thought maybe the emergency brake was perhaps the problem, so I removed the cross bar altogether, but that made no difference either. If anyone knows what is going on with this, I would very very much appreciate a response.

I have a suggestion: Measure the diameter across the shoes, very accurately. Then measure the inside of the drums. Is it the correct Drum?

If the shoes are pulled in tight then I'd measure the drums yourself, as mentioned.

There were two drum options available for the '97 Ranger. There's a 9" and a 10" drum.

9"x1.75" Bendix 140452 - Bendix Brake Drums
